So the reason i haven't been posting a lot lately, is not only because of school, but because i have been working very hard to get a few things done. One of those things was the Skeme logo, which turned out great! The man behind the creation of the logo, is Rekid! (@ReKid, http://www.spacexinvader.blogspot.com)! Kid A!
Recently, i got an amazing opportunity to start working with a company that goes by the name of "Kid A".
Let me start off by saying, they are a great! I am so excited to have been able to work with them! Be sure to check out there website at http://www.kid-a.ca/home/
Planet Koda: To start off, What’s your name? And what is your brands name?
Kid A: Hello Dakota, it’s good to hear from you. To answer your question our brands name is KID A. As for our actual names, we prefer to keep it anonymous.
How did you come up with your brands name, and when did you start your company?
The letter A is predominant in both of our legal names and our nick names.
We had the idea for the KID A label in early 2008 but did not officially launch until late 2008.
What inspired you to get into the clothing/streetwear business, and to start KID A Apparel?
There is a short answer to this question that we posted in our ABOUT page but we have always been into skateboarding and street culture.
Truly, as long as we can remember, we have always had a deep desire for the best clothing. We would hit up countless stores to look for that perfect t-shirt or pair of jeans. We would critique every piece that we saw, saying how it would look better if it was cut differently or if the design on the shirt was a little bolder or offset. Over time the idea just kept coming back to us that if we had our own line, we would make the most amazing clothes and that’s how we started.
Where do you guys set up shop?
We are located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
How Many People Run Kid A?
KID A consists of a two man team.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs? What’s the process in creating a shirt?
We grew up skateboarding are inspired by the skate scene and the people and culture that surround it. There is a deep passion for old movies, and music of all types. We both love to travel and feel at home backpacking as much as we do in Edmonton. A lot of our ideas have stemmed from our travels and our experiences from around the globe.
The creating process starts with an idea that we may have gotten from anywhere. We take the idea sketch it out first, tweak it, and then make a digital version.
Do you have any goals, or upcoming plans for Kid A?
New shirt designs are always on our minds.
In the future we would like to launch a series of skateboard decks.
Personally, What are some of your favorite brands?
Stussy, Maiden Noir, addidas, HUF, Original Fake.
Do you print your own shirts, or just design them and have them printed?
We have them printed. In the future we would like to buy our own printing machines and warehouse to print our shirts but right now we just can’t afford it.
Since the 1st day you started KID A, have you come away with any memories or funny stories?
When you start you have no idea if anyone other than yourself is going to like your clothes. After we launched some time passed and we got an order from Australia. We couldn’t believe that someone on another continent would be walking the streets with our shirt on their back. The feeling is indescribable.
Harry Delano Interviews Koda!
Alright, so i got the chance to be interviewed by my boy Harry Delano from http://officialharrydelano.blogspot.com/, be sure to check out his blog, drop some comments and follow! Tell me what you think of the interview!
1. So Dakota, tell us a bit about yourself?
Whadd up? My name is Dakota "Koda" Tague, I am about to turn 16, and I'm originally from Manhattan.
2. How did you start your blog?
My interest toward blogging came from surfing the web, looking at sited like Hypebeast, and SlamxHype, and the Red Ribbon Army! I saw these, and thought it would be a cool thing to get into, because like these sites, I loved streetwear/fashion/hip-hop culture etc.
3. Who or what inspired you?
To be honest, I'm not really inspired by a single person, or people at all. I'm more inspired by ART as a whole, when i see someone on their grind, doing what they love, that's what motivates me. It could be anything from Music, to drawing, to how someone dresses to graphic design! I guess I'm really just inspired by people doing what they love, by expressing themselves and trying to make it big!
4. Who are your inspirations?
If I did have to choose actually people for my inspiration, I would have to say Drake and Tupac would be my main inspiration, because they are doing what they love, expressing themselves, and when you hear their work, it can move you, and it something you can easily relate to, because they express everyday problems! At the same time, I'm inspired by the majority of bloggers on the web, just for doing them, people like Remy and Ricci Steez, who use their talent to create true art!
5. Who are some of your favourite artists?
This list could go on for days! Drake, Tupac, Biggie, Mac Dre, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Macklemore, Short Dawg, Weezy, Tyga, NWA. Music is something I love, so I truly have hundreds of favorite artists, because they are all different! That's a little list for you though!
6. What is your favourite website?
You mean other then PlanetKoda.blogspot.com? (;
One website I always find myself on is Adeen Nyc!
7. What are your favourite brands?
That's another tough one! I really like Freshjive, BBC, Breezy Excursion, Dope Couture! So many more though!
And Skeme! you guys will learn about Skeme later though!
8. In three words, how would you describe your fashion style?
Adaptive, Creative and Fresh!
9. Can you tell us a bit about Skeme?
I will tell you that I have been taking classes on screen printing and silk screening. Also have been working on getting all the materials I need for that. When it comes to Skeme, it isn't just a brand, or a movement I'm trying to create. Skeme isn't just some name your going to see on material products. Skeme is a way of life, it's me and my homies way of life. Always Skemin' for another way to make that paper, Skeme is our grind. I hope that makes sense, Skeme is everything from my blog, to the music I listen to, to the bed I sleep on! It's how we get by, always making up a new Skeme to make it in this world!
10. What are some of your goals in life?
I have many goals, but my one and only main, true goal is.... To be happy, and live life to the fullest!
11. Anything else you want say?
Check out my blog, I love feedback from all you guys! Drop comments, show love!
